Rumors become true. We have been hearing that RIM is seriously considering a feature that lets the BlackBerry PlayBook devices to run Android apps. RIM has officially confirmed that its PlayBook tablet will support Android applications. This feature isn’t only for RIM’s PlayBook tablet, for more of its devices. RIM’s new QNX-based BlackBerry smartphones will also be able to run the Android apps.
Bear in mind that only some specific Android apps will run on the tablet. For now, the PlayBook will only support Android 2.3 apps and users won’t be able to access the Android Market , but able to get the Android apps through the BlackBerry App World. RIM is also offering a suite of tools “Sandbox” for Android developers that will allow them to easily port their existing apps to the PlayBook for distribution through BlackBerry App World, providing a new opportunity for many developers to reach BlackBerry PlayBook users.
BlackBerry PlayBook Wi-Fi variant is ready to hit the markets on April 19th and the pre-orders are already available now.
