This is a pleasant news to all those owing Google Nexus S smartphone. Google, after teasing us with a ‘surprise’ tweet on their twitter account has now officially announced the launch of Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 update to the Nexus S in the coming weeks with various bug fixes and with addition of an awesome Google Talk video chat capability. There were rumors earlier this month that Google might rollout Google talk video chat to the Nexus S users when some of the developers working on it suggested the same on twitter. It indeed is happening right now! With the addition of video chat feature to the Nexus S, users can do voice and video chat with their contacts Gmail over WiFi, 3G or 4G connections.
Using the video chat on your Nexus S is simple. All the contacts who are available for video chat will shown with a small camcorder symbol next to their name and alll you need to do is click that button to get started. All the text chats with the person you are video chatting will be overlaid on the video chat screen.
Sure we have some good Android apps for Video calling (read Qik, Fring etc.,) but a native Google talk video chat will be much more useful since you can try video chat with all your existing Gmail contacts and you don’t need to signup afresh. Android 2.3.4 over-the-air (OTA) update has already started for the Nexus S phones, and Google says it will launch the same for other Android 2.3+ devices ‘very soon’.
