Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 To Ship With Android 3.1 Honeyomb

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was first announced at CTIA event running with Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS on it, along with the smaller Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet. A few weeks ago, Google has officially unveiled its new Android 3.1 Honeycomb, and announced that Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1 would be shipped with Android 3.1 Honeycomb on it. Verizon branded Motorola Xoom 3G tablets are already rocking with the new Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS which was launched during the Google I/O 2011 developers conference earlier this month.

In the comment section of Samsung Mobile USA’s Facebook page, a spokesperson of Samsung Mobile has confirmed that “the original had 3.0 but now it will [be launching] with Android 3.1.”  and Samsung’s official website also updated the webpage of Galaxy Tab 10.1 as Android 3.1 Honeycomb.

Android 3.1’s major update brings better hardware acceleration for faster graphics performance. Some of the usually used applications have been greatly updated in 3.1. The music app now supports Music Beta by Google in selected countries. Android 3.1 brings support for various USB devices such as keyboard mice and game controllers. Resizable Widgets- Users can now change the dimensions of their home screen widgets as they feel like. Users can now configure an HTTP proxy for separate Wi-Fi access points by tapping and holding the access point in the settings menu. It brings support for inline playback of video embedded in HTML5 tag.

Specs wise, Sammy’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 is having TouchWiz UX on top of Honeycomb OS, dual-core 1GHz chipset, dual-cameras – 3MP rear & 2MP front, Bluetooth 2.1, 1080p HD video playback, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Flash Player 10.2, Samsung Mini Apps Tray, Social Hub, Reader’s Hub, Music Hub, 6860mAh battery and much more.

All the above specifications, and the Android 3.1 Honeycomb’s exciting features are making the new revamped Galaxy Tab 10.1 is definitely going to be a worthy opponent to the Apple iPad 2.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 is set to launch on June 8th, and it is now available for pre-order at J&R $499 for 16GB and $599 for 32GB editions. We hope that the release date won’t be pushed back due to the Android 3.1 Honeycomb update.
