Good news for Sprint customers. It is almost officially confirmed that the Sprint versioned BlackBerry PlayBook Wi-Fi edition will be hitting the markets on June 5th, Sunday, according to a tweet by Sprint’s Marketing Director Gerald Evans. The 16GB edition of Sprint Wi-Fi PlayBook will set you back at $499.99 plus tax. According to the previous leaks, the Wi-Fi edition was supposed to release on May 8th, but it got delayed due to some unknown reasons.

Evans has also confirmed that Sprint will be releasing the 4G WiMAX versioned PlayBook tablet later this year. We heard the rumors about RIM prepping the BlackBerry PlayBook 2, a sequel to the original 7-inch PlayBook. The sequel version will be having 10-inch touchscreen display, and 4G radio under the hood.

BlackBerry PlayBook has got a A9 dual-core 1GHz processor, sporting 7” LCD touch display, 1 GB RAM, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, 3 Megapixels front facing camera, 5 Megapixels rear facing cameras, supports 1080p HD video recording, 1080p HD video playback with an HDMI-out port, 802.11  Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, support for WebKit/HTML5, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headset jack and a microphone, powered by 5300mAh battery and QNX based BlackBerry OS. PlayBook will be getting the email client and BlackBerry Messenger access support, calendar functionality, Video Chat, Facebook apps with an imminent software update after the launch.

Sprint’s Wi-Fi only PlayBook will be available to purchase at Sprint’s retail stores, through telesales (1-800-SPRINT1), Business sales and from Sprint’s online stores.
