Motorola Flipside Gets Android 2.2 Froyo OS Update

The AT&T branded Motorola Flipside handsets’ owners who are still having the Android 2.1 Eclair OS will be pleased to know that the Android 2.2 Froyo OS update is now officially available. Sadly, Moto couldn’t bring the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread for this handset, but still it’s a good sign as the manufacturer is upgrading from the out-dated Android 2.1 Eclair OS, and it would be better than being stuck on Eclair forever. The new firmware upgrade will get the build number 2.159.17 SW for your Flipside handset. The update is available on the Motorola support website right now to download manually. Alongside a bump to Android 2.2 Froyo, you’ll be getting the following changes for Flipside handset:

# Enhanced performance for faster users interface, app operation, web browsing.
# Adobe flash player support.
# Pre-loaded Google Books.
# Apps can now be stored on microSD card.
# USB Tethering.
# 3 customizable sets of homescreens.
# Resizable widgets.
# Addition of Dialer search.
# Improved Calendar, Photo, Date and Time, Weather widgets.
# Global Address Lookup, address history lookup, and Push ActiveSync.
# Multiselection of emails.
# Addition of Sticky Note widget to save a quick note on your home screen.
# A set of preinstalled apps – Task Manager, Files, Latitude, Places.
# Addition of new security features – Exchange based encryption, and password security.
# Updated Gallery UI.
# LinkedIn accounts can now be added to integrate and sync with contacts, messaging and social networking updates.

  1. I tried method one and it started installing. then powered off. Now my phone is stuck at the white screen with the motorola logo. Completely frozen wont even do the hard mode reset with the volume buttons and power button.

If anyones had this issue and fixed it let me know

  2. Hey I also used the first option and got to the logo screen which remained for awhile; then I saw your comment and was like’ oh boy’; but the screen changed and the phone finished updating after a little more waiting…just be a little patient with it; I hope you got it resolved.S
