Asus Eee Pad Transformer Gets Minor Update 8.6.5.9

Asus has started rolling out a minor update for its first ever Android tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer. The new firmware update bears the build number HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816. This minor update aims to bring full Netflix support for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. The latest update OTA is also bringing an update for the dock software, bumping the version up to EP101-0213. Besides streaming service support and the updated docking support, the update will include the following changes:

# A choice of curser icons.
# The Wi-Fi icon changes colour. You’ll notice that the Wi-Fi icon stays blue instead of grey.
# Addition of the ability to enable or disable the virtual keyboard while docked.
# Compass issue will be resolved.
# Mouse pointer is back.
# RAM usage seems lower after installing this update.
# Improved boot times.

.. and more.

Users of the Eee Pad Transformer tablets will be receiving an OTA update on your displays at any moment asking you to accept it. In case you didn’t get the update, you can force the manual update by heading over to Settings –> About Tablet –> and hit System Updates button. This work should bring you the latest update for your update. Note that it would be better and highly recommendable to install the update with your keyboard connected to the device. Netflix now should work great with this new new Firmware Update. And after successfully installed this update you will have:

Build number HTJ85B.WW_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816.
and Mobile Dock Version – EP101-0213.

Again we are highly recommending you to do Hard Reset after finishing the upgrade process. Once you do Hard Reset, most of the issues will sort out that came along with the new firmware update. For that you need to Unplug the power cord –> Turn off the tablet –> Press and Hold the power button and the “Down” volume button together until after the normal start up screen appears. Leave the tablet for some seconds and now you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of the screen called “Wipe Data” and “Android”. Wait a few more seconds until the term “Cold Boot” appears in the list near the top of the screen. Now just press and release the “Down” volume button again –> Reboot the tablet.

Remember that the official Netflix app in the Android Market doesn’t yet support your Transformer tablet. But, you can download the Netflix.apk (hit the link) file from here and see if it works.
