Earlier this week, at CES event, both Sony and Nokia took the wraps-of their brand new Sony Xperia Ion and Nokia Lumia 900 respectively, which are heading to release on AT&T network. Ericsson-less Sony Xperia Ion is one of Sony’s most impressive creations to date. Sony has dropped the ‘Ericsson’ brand from its name with the launch of Xperia Ion. Nokia Lumia 900 is born for the U.S. Both the Sony Xperia Ion and Nokia Lumia 900 are having AT&T’s compatible 4G LTE connectivity. The newly launched Nokia Lumia 900 seems to be the perfect campaigner to claim the title of being the most desired Windows Phone at the moment. Previously, we’ve gone through the comparison article among the Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 800 and an entry-level spec’d Nokia Lumia 710 handset. This time, we’re comparing the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone with the Android OS powered Sony Xperia Ion handset.

Operating System

Nokia Lumia 900 comes preinstalled with Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ OS. Sony Xperia Ion handset isn’t loaded up with the latest Google mobile OS — Ice Cream Sandwich. It runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS with TimeScape UI on top of it and the manufacturer has promised to roll out an update for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the 2nd quarter of this year.

Display

Nokia Lumia 900 comes with 4.3-inch AMOLED display with Clear Black technology, delivering 800 X 400 pixels of resolution.

Sony Xperia Ion has got a 4.6-inch area of LED-backlit display boasting 1280 X 720 pixels resolution with Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology.

The Nokia Lumia 900’s screen uses toughened ‘Gorilla Glass’ to prevent cracks, scratches and features multi-touch, gyro and accelerometer sensors.

CPU

Nokia Lumia 900 runs on 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8055 single-core processor, while the Sony Xperia Ion comes with 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 processor, along with a 1GB RAM.

The lack of Dual Core is being considered as a big issue, as most of the mobiles are coming with Dual Core processors nowadays. There is a 512 MB RAM in Nokia Lumia 900 to keep things going smoothly and Windows Phone OS is currently more efficient than Android.

Memory

Nokia Lumia 900 comes with 16GB onboard storage only and there is no memory expandable option due to the lack of microSD card slot. Sony Xperia Ion has also got 16GB flash memory, 1GB memory storage, but there is a memory expansion support up to32GB via micro SD cards.

Camera

There is an 8 megapixel camera on the rear-side of the the Nokia Lumia 900 with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual-LED flash primary rear camera with Geo-tagging and video recording capabilities of 720p at 30fps and video stabilization. Its has also got a 1.3MP camera for 720p HD video calling. Lumia 900 is the first device to feature front facing camera.

Sony Xperia Ion has got an impressive and amazing 12MP rear-facing camera with LED flash to record 1080p HD videos and it can also make 720p HD video calls with the help of its 1.3MP front shooter.

Network Support

Both the Nokia Lumia 900 and Sony Xperia Ion have got HSPA+ capability, as well as 4G LTE connectivity.

Connectivity

Nokia Lumia 900 has got a micro USB 2.0, 3.5mm headset jack, 802.11 Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1.

Sony Xperia Ion comes with micro USB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack, 802.11 Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, as well as HDMI out, DLNA capability.

Battery

Nokia Lumia 900 has got a standard 1830mAh battery to provide up to 300 hours of standby time, up to 7 hours of talk time. Sony Xperia Ion comes with slightly powerful 1900mAh battery, which stand up to 400 hours of standby time, 10 hours of talk time.
