Samsung Galaxy S II Gets Android ICS Update In Europe and Korea

Finally, we have the first official word confirming the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS update roll out process. That’s right. Samsung has officially confirmed that Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS update is now available for the Europe and Korea based Samsung Galaxy S II handsets, starting today. The OTA (over-the-air) update should now reach the Galaxy S II owners in Poland, Hungary, Sweden and some parts of Korea. Sammy has also confirmed the ICS update will be pushing out on other global markets in a gradual manner.

So, it’s a great news for Galaxy S II owners in the Korea and Europe and the update will also roll out to the Galaxy S II variants of the same hardware in other parts of Asia, very soon. But the U.S. based Galaxy S II owners will probably have a little longer to wait. Samsung has yet to confirm the ICS update roll out details for the Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T branded Galaxy S II handsets.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS update will be also roll out for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II LTE devices very soon. The manufacturer has also confirmed that a set of new features including Face Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor will roll out for the Galaxy S handsets through an upgrade process very soon.

Samsung Galaxy S II owners (If you’re in one of the markets listed above) should see the notification alerts on their handsets asking you to accept the OTA update. If the update fails to reach your handset, you try to pull the update manually by heading over to Menu –> Settings –> About Phone –> Software Update –> Check Now –> If the update available –> Accept it and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the upgrade process. After successfully finished the upgrading process, the handset’s new build number should be shown as Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
