Last Wednesday, AT&T announced that the Samsung Galaxy S II I777 handset’s upgrade to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich build was available for download. Unfortunately for Galaxy S II owners, the update was put on hold shortly thereafter due to ‘technical reasons’ with the roll out process. According to the folks over XDA Forums, the download was finally revived the upgrade is once again ready for download, though you’ll need to connect to Samsung’s Kies desktop program in order to grab it.

Here’s a reminder of what you’ll be getting in the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy S II i777:

  • Improved multi-tasking
  • Customizable widgets
  • Improved text input and spell-checking
  • New dictionaries for better error correction and word suggestion
  • Enhanced web browsing and personalization capability
  • Improved email management
  • New technology for better security options
  • Clearer menu formatting

Along with all of those enhancements, the upgrade will also bump the Galaxy S II with a new build number IML74K.CLE5. Unfortunately the update isn’t showing up over the air. So, Get a computer to download Android 4.0.3 ICS update and install it, using Samsung’s Kies application (Grab Kies software from here). AT&T has yet to confirm the re-roll out process of the update. Try it out – you’ve got nothing to lose. Be sure to take a full back up of the device, though the update is expected to not factory reset your handset.
