[IFA 2012] Sony Unveils Quad-Core Xperia Tablet S; Becomes First Tablet under Xperia Line-up

We knew this day was coming, as we already came across the leaked press materials, leaked pictures of the accessories of the first Xperia tablet. At IFA 2012 event in Berlin, Sony has officially unveiled the Xperia Tablet S. The tablet is powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor. When it comes to specs, the device includes a:

# 9.4-inch IPS LCD OptiContrast display with 1280 X 800 pixels of resolution and low-friction coating
# Ships with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS with TimeScape UI sits on top of it
# Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz
# 1GB RAM
# 8 megapixels main camera capable of taking 1080p HD videos, a front-facing 1MP HD shooter
# 16/ 32/ 64GB built-in memory storage, a full sized SD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB
# micro USB 2.0, HDMI out, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
# 6000mAh battery lasts up to 10 hours Internet browsing / 12 hours video playback on a single charge

The Xperia Tablet S ships with Music and Video Unlimited apps, and an exclusive “Guest Mode” feature that allows you to restrict access to certain apps when other users try to interact with the tablet and its IR sensor doubles as a remote control. Sony is also bringing a set of compatible accessories for the Xperia Tablet S, including a portable docking stand, dock speaker, and a keyboard case in various colors (pictured below), which is similar to the Microsoft Surface cover.

Sony Xperia tablet S will be available to purchase from September 7th and the 16GB version checks in at $399, while the 32GB and 64GB editions will sell for $499 and $599 respectively. Sony will charge $99 for Cover with QWERTY keyboard case, $99 for docking stand. Sony has promised to roll out the Android 4.1 jelly Bean update as soon as the tablets hits the markets.
