As promised earlier, Apple has started seeding its most refined mobile OS, iOS 6 for the users who own iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, new iPad, as well as iPod Touch devices. Users currently running iOS 5 or later can update their devices over the air.
iOS 6 brings new Maps app with free voice-guided navigation (Apple discontinued Google Maps), Flyover mode in Maps, Maps app with TomTom data, turn-by-turn navigation, Facebook integration every where, a more functional Siri app, Siri integration with car handsfree systems, Siri on iPad 3, better Safari browser with iCloud tabs, full-screen mode, offline reading, improved HDR camera function, improved privacy settings, updated Mail with VIP and flagged mailboxes, new wall papers and many more features are coming. One of the big highlights of the iOS 6 is Passbook app, which is Apple’s digital wallet for storing boarding passes, movie tickets, coupon cards and it can perform many more tasks.
Siri will speak Canadian English, Spanish (Spain/Mexico), Italian, Italian (Switzerland), Korean, Mandarin (Chinese/Taiwan), Cantonese (Hong Kong). The Flyover mode in Maps can be used only on dual-core powered iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 devices.
If you are ready to go, you can check the Software update menu on your eligible device. Users can also download update from your PC or Mac, but the users are required to be running on the latest iTunes (v10.7) version. Don’t forget to take a full backup of your device before attempting to upgrade it.
iOS users can also upgrade manually with the firmware files, but you’ll need the latest iTunes (v10.7) installed, before you proceed to a direct firmware update with IPSW.
