Windows Phone 8 Apollo+ Update Coming in Q1 Next Year: Report

Windows Phone 8 Apollo+ Update

While the RedMond company is yet to provide exact information on the release date of the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the users who are still rockin’ their Windows Phone 7 handsets, a new rumor has already hit the web claiming that Microsoft is keen to bring a first notable update for the Windows Phone 8 running handsets. The notorious @Football4PDA’s Twitter account is at it again, @Football4PDA, who has been responsible for number of leaks regarding the HTC 8X (also known as “Accord”). He has tweeted Microsoft is prepping a Windows Phone 8 update known as Apollo+ (Apollo Plus). According to the source, Microsoft will begin the Apollo+ update distribution sometime in the 1st quarter of next year.

The Windows Phone 8 is currently being referred to by codename “Apollo,” which has been fully unveiled in late October and the WP9 running handsets were made available for the consumers earlier in November. The Verge has also confirmed Microsoft’s plans for the release of its Apollo+ update and the company will showcase it at the Mobile World Congress event in February next year.

In case you are interested, Apollo+ build will be a maintenance type of update and it will push fixes and features, and it is expected to bring VPN support to enable connectivity with systems, audio enhancements. You may also get a Wi-Fi tweak in the future update to allow connections to stay on all of the time. Users have been reporting that Wi-Fi connection automatically shuts off, when the phone goes to the Lock screen. Earlier this month, Windows Phone Program Manager Joe Belfiore has also tweeted that a fix is coming for this odd behaviour of Wi-Fi. We can also expect to see the notification centre, that wasn’t included with the Windows Phone 8 release, as the company “ran out of the time.”.

How many of you are rockin’ a Windows Phone 8 handset device?
