AT&T Intros Pantech Discover for $50–4.8” HD Screen, 12.6MP Camera [CES 2013]

Now it’s AT&T’s time to shine at the CES event in Vegas. It comes to CES with only a handset news. AT&T has introduced the new Pantech Discover, a latest flagship from the South Korean manufacturer. The device will become available to purchase online and in stores from January 11th for just $49.99 on a two-year contract with the carrier.

The Pantech Discover built around a 4.8-inch TFT touchscreen with 720p HD resolution, runs on 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of native storage and 32GB memory expansion via microSD card slot. There’s a 1.26 megapixel main camera to record 1080p HD videos, as well as a a front-facing 2 megapixel snapper. It comes with dual 3D surround sound, a 2,100mAh battery, 4G LTE capability, 802.11 Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, micro USB 2.0, and there’s NFC too.

Panect Discover boots Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich OS with “Easy Experience” customizations – including a Swifkey keyboard and AT&T’s DriveMode app. The DriveMode app can automatically send voicemail or customizable reply to the caller when you’re traveling faster than 25mph. AT&T says that “by launching products at very competitive price points, Pantech is continuing to prove that high quality smartphones don’t need to come with a high price tag”, said Gary Cherner, vice president of marketing and sales at Pantech.

AT&T has also announced new APIs for developers, and whole house connectivity plans in both “simple” and “smart” levels of interaction, so that your handset can take control on home appliances, HVAC systems, security, and lighting controls. AT&T will offer mobile payments on its phones as a part of its support for the ISIS system in the near future.
