Samsung has announced the newest addition to its rugged Android phones line-up n the form of the Galaxy Xcover 2. This is an ultra-ruggedized durable Android handset, which is made for extreme outdoor conditions

Powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with TouchWiz on top of it. It has a 4-inch TFT display with 480 by 800 pixels of resolution, 5 megapixel primary camera with a dedicated camera key, 4GB internal memory with microSD card slot, micro USB 2.0, and there’s also a VGA camera on front side.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 has got IP67 certification with dust and sand proof capabilities, and it is water resistant to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes. Users can also capture photos under water using the dedicated direct camera key, which is pretty cool.

Connectivity wise, the device comes with 3G with 14.4Mbps HSDPA speeds, Bluetooth version 4.0, 802.11 Wi-Fi b/g/n, and enhanced GPS + GLONASS with “satellite signal detection by up to 20% to tracks your location more accurately.” It packs a 1,700mAh battery. Sammy says it should be good for up to 570 hours of standby time. Of course, as it is a Samsung device, you can expect a set of pre-installed apps for this phone such as Smart Stay, Best Shot, S Voice, S Cloud, ChatOn messaging services, AllShare Play, Samsung Hub, and more.

Unfortunately, there’s no official word on pricing or availability information of the Xcover 2 handset at the moment. But a Swedish website CDON is currently offering pre-orders for this handset, priced at 2,690 Swedish krona ( that’s approx. $415). The site says that the estimated shipping date is February 21. Recently leaked Samsung roadmap also suggests that it will be made available in stores in February.
