You may have already known that Intel has started introducing chipsets for mobile phones also. They announced their first Intel Atom Z2460 processor for the Motorola RAZR i smartphone, and a 2GHz dual-core Atom processor for the Lenovo K900 smartphone. These are not the only chipsets that they have been offering since September last year.
A week ago, Intel introduced the first smartphone for Africa, Yolo which is powered by its newly arrived Atom Z2420 Processor which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. This chipset codenamed Lexington was showed off at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. The Yolo smartphone is based on Intel’s Smartphone Reference Design. Today, a few hours ago, we reported that Intel and Acer announced the Acer Liquid C1 packed with the said Intel’s Atom Z2420 processor especially for the Asia Pacific region.
Now, Intel is planning to show off dual core, dual-graphics Android smartphones at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona in late February. The chip maker stated in a press release “Specifically, Intel will showcase its latest smartphone technologies and devices running the Android platform, including a new dual core, dual graphics platform, as well as OEM- and service provider-supported devices based on the company’s new Intel Atom Z2420 platform targeted at emerging markets.” They are also planning to announce Windows 8 tablet and convertible designs that deliver a complete computing experience.
Yet, there’s no word regarding the names of the upcoming android smartphones. We’ll let you know when the event comes nearer.
