HTC Thunderbolt Android 4.0.4 ICS Update 7.02.605.06

Better late than never. Well, those who still own the HTC Thunderbolt handsets are in luck after a fairly lengthy wait. Verizon and HTC have finally released the hotly-anticipated ICS update for the Thunderbolt handsets. Finally, the owners of these handsets can take breath a sigh of relief. According to reports, owners of the Verizon connected Thunderbolts in the United States have begun to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. A few days ago, Verizon officially approved ICS update and posted full details on its support webpage with “coming soon” tag.

The update is about 395MB in size and can be downloaded and installed OTA (over-the-air), and the update bumps the build number up to 7.02.605.06, Android version up to v4.0.4, and you will also get Sense 3.6 UI topping ICS OS, which you may or may not be fond of.

Aside from bringing the phone’s software to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, the update is also bringing performance enhancements, improvements, lots of new features including lock screen notifications, a custom launch bar, data usage metrics, easily create folders, multitask with ease, support for new APIs, a new Contacts app, a new Calendar, faster and better browser, a whole new user interface to the table, and users will be also able to run the latest Google apps – new versions of Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Chrome. Verizon has also added some exclusive features including Verizon Remote Diagnostics, improved device stability, and the carrier has removed Blockbuster, Rhapsody, Verizon Video, and Mobile IM apps.

So those owning the Thunderbolt smartphones who are still carrying Gingerbread with difficulty, should check the availability of the update by hitting the Settings –> Software Update –> and hit Check Now button.

And yeah, you should not expect to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in the near future.
