Netflix App For Androids (Select) Available To Download Now

Netflix App For Android

Windows Phone 7 and iOS users are already rocking the Netflix app on their handsets, but Netflix has been teasing the Android users since last year. Now the wait is over. Back in November 2010, Netflix has promised to bring the video streaming to Android platform in this year and now they’ve officially announced that its Android application is now available in the Android Market. We’ve already seen an early leak of this app for Android at the end of March, but the leaked app doesn’t allow the Android users to stream videos.

However the all Android powered smartphones won’t be able to download the newly launched Netflix app because it’s only supported on “select phones that have the requisite playback support.”

The following handsets currently support Netflix streaming:

# Samsung/Google Nexus S with Android 2.3.
# HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2 & 2.3.
# HTC T-Mobile G2 with Android 2.2.
# HTC EVO 4G with Android 2.2.
# HTC Incredible with Android 2.2.

Netflix has mentioned that it is working hard to bring its video streaming application soon supporting the majority of Android smartphones that are available currently. Netflix anticipates that many of the "technical challenges will be resolved in the coming months."

The owners of any of the devices mentioned above can head over to Android Market (hit the link) and download the Netflix App (1.2.0) for Free, which is weighing at the size of 5.4MB.

  1. The problem with NetFLix here is that, while they have some good content, a lot of it isn’t available to most consumers. I have DISH network and TV Everywhere, and with my Android I can get my Live TV and DVR anywhere I go, as well as access to Dishonline.com. For no extra charge I can get thousands of on-demand titles, as well as access to my HBO and Cinemax subscriptions with HBO/MAX GO. These services aren’t even available with NetFlix. I work at DISH now and love the versatility, range and content. For my Dollar, there is no alternative!!
