We all know Amazon is getting to the tablet PC business after tasting success with their popular ebook reader Kindle. We have earlier carried a report saying that Amazon might come up with Android tablet very soon. Later Amazon’s CEO’s answer (“stay tuned”) to a question posted by journalists about the Amazon tablet bolstered the rumors. Up until now, all we knew was that Amazon was prepping a tablet. But today, courtesy a tipster’s tip to BGR, Amazon could be launching not just one but a family of tablets. The report on BGR says Amazon will be producing at least two tablets by the end of 2011. The first one, codenamed “Coyote” will run on the current NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. The second one, codenamed “Hollywood” is going to feature higher-end hardware including NVIDIA Tegra 3 aka Kal-EI quad-core processor.
However we don’t have any information about the specs other than the processors that will power the tablets. And it’s still unclear whether these tablets feature Android Honeycomb (which is most likely to be the case). Though there’s no mention about the screen sizes, it is possible that Amazon Coyote might feature a 7-inch display while Amazon Hollywood might be a 10-inch one. These are just assumptions made keeping the trend of current Android tablets. We are hoping to get some official info from Amazon on this.
