Official Gingerbread Update For Motorola Droid X Rolling Out Now [Download]

The Motorola Droid X owners, who couldn’t buy the Motorola DROID X 2 will no longer need to worry as the manufacturer has officially started rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. We were told earlier that the Gingerbread update was supposed to rolled out starting last Friday (May 27th), but it was delayed and the only members of ‘soak test’ of Motorola support forums have got the OTA update on their handsets.

Official Gingerbread Update For Motorola Droid X

The Gingerbread update’s model number is 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US, and it brings the much awaited Gingerbread flavor of Android OS (version 2.3.3), along with the several improvements to the Droid X and a bunch of other enhancements including some bug fixes.

Some Of The New Features After Upgrading To Gingerbread:

# Download Manager App, to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
# Multi-Touch Key-Chording allows you to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos.
# Addition of new widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors, Dock Icons, App Groups.
# Improvements for Camera, Calendar, E-mail, and many more.
# The whole list of features that the update brings can be found here.

As it is not Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update, Google Talk is not supported by the handset just yet. Rooted Droid X owners should flash back to the standard Droid X software to receive the OTA update, and head over to “Menu” > “Settings” > “About Phone” > “Settings” > “System Updates” > and tap the “Check New” button –> Tap Install –> Installation should start now.
