Sammy has announced new naming scheme for the Galaxy brand and intros four new smartphones in Galaxy line-up that will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS out of the box: Samsung Galaxy W, Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro.
First off, the Samsung Galaxy W and the letter “W” is referred to by the manufacturer as “Wonder” which will describe high-tier phones. Galaxy W runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, 1.4GHz processor, 3.7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with 800 X 480 pixels of resolution, equipped with 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, an additional front facing VGA camera, HD video playback and recording at 30 fps, 4GB internal memory, microSD card slot support for memory expansion up to 32GB, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, micro USB 2.0, 1500mAh battery and all the regular features of an Android phone.

The Samsung Galaxy M Pro is a slim, 9.97mm thick smartphone having a full QWERY keyboard and the word “M” is for Magical with mid-tier phones offering high-performance models at an economic price-point. Specs wise, it has got 2.66 inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with HVGA (480 X 320) pixels, 1GHz processor ticking inside, 5MP rear-facing camera, a front facing camera to make video calls, HD video playback and recording at 30fps, 1GB built-in memory, microSD card slot to hold memory up to 32GB, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity. It will be pre-loaded with enterprise applications including Sybase Afaria, CISCO Mobile and CISCO WebEx. Galaxy M Pro will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and powered by a 1350mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy Y is an entry level smartphone and the letter “Y” connects to the word Youth referring to entry-level phones with better advantages for their low price tags. Galaxy Y is a candybar touchscreen and also runs Google’s latest Android, 2.3 Gingerbread, featuring 3-inch TFT LCD display with 320 X 240 resolution, equipped with an 832MHz processor, 2 megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 1200mAh battery and will be available in a variety of colors.

Last, but not least, the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro has similar specs to the Galaxy Y but comes with a QWERTY keyboard and the word “Pro” describes a QWERTY keyboard for speedier email typing and increased productivity for professionals. It will be featuring 2.6 inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with LQVGA (320 X 240) resolution, powered by an 832MHz chipset, 2MP camera, 160MB Internal memory, 2GB inbox microSD card that is expandable up to 32GB, Music Player with Sound Alive, 3.5mm Ear Jack, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, 3G, Bluetooth v 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS. Galaxy Y Pro will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and powered by a 1200mAh battery.

Additionally, the Korean manufacturer will continue to label its next-generation devices: “Plus” will stand for a refresh or upgrade of an existing mode while “LTE” will describe phones with LTE (Long-Term Evolution) connectivity standards to provide increased mobile network capacity and speed.

Samsung will be showcasing the four new Galaxy W, M Pro, Y and Y Pro handset at IFA in Berlin next week. Price info and the release dates haven’t been officially revealed out yet. Here is the Galaxy naming system that Samsung is going to adopt.
