Motorola Droid 2’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update 4.5.601.A955 Available Now

Good news Motorola Droid 2 users. Finally, the Verizon Wireless has started rolling out the most-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for your Droid 2 handsets. The manufacturer has just confirmed the update is now pushing out in the stages. Really, more older Droid devices has been getting Gingerbread flavor this summer. The new software update will get the software version 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US for the Droid 2 handset.

Motorola Droid 2’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update 4.5.601

The Motorola Droid 2 users will be getting the notification alert regarding the update, asking to tap the Download” button to get the latest update. You can also manually check for the software update availability by following the instruction provided below.

Rooted Droid 2 owners should flash back to the standard Droid X software to receive the OTA update, and move over to “Menu” > “Settings” > “About Phone” > “Settings” > “System Updates” > and tap the “Download” button –> wait for some to finish the downloading process –> Tap Install button –> Installation should start now –> Handset Reboots Automatically –> Tap the OK  button on screen –> Done. The Gingerbread piece of cake should be ready now to taste on your handset. After finishing the installation of the update, the software version should be shown as 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US. List of problems since upgrade: Solitaire locks up and requires battery removal to reboot, “Connected to multimedia station” notification remains on even after removing from dock, Bluetooth icon does not change state when connected/disconnected, don’t seem to be getting email notifications. That’s it so far (upgraded on 9/2/2011). As a software developer I would be reprimanded for releasing software this buggy. Hope a patch is available soon or I may end up performing a factory reset.
