Apple yesterday released iTunes 10.5 beta 9 and it is now available to download for developers from the Apple servers. The update appears to be primarily targeted at developers testing the iTunes Match service. Apple said that iTunes 10.5 beta 9 is containing various bug fixes and a set of performance enhancements. This release is destined to help developers testing Music Match beta service of iOS and iTunes. FYI, "iTunes Match” feature is Apple’s new iCloud product that was announced at WWDC 2011 event. This feature will allow the users to begin scanning their libraries for songs that match Apple’s database. In early September, Apple has released 8th beta version of iTunes 10.5 along with the iWork beta 3 for iOS. Apple is expected to release iOS 5 for consumers in next week.
Release Notes of Apple iTunes 10.1 beta 9:
# iCloud libraries will be deleted at the end of this beta. So keep backing up the data and do not delete the music from iCloud that you added from your PC machine.
# Apple may periodically delete all iCloud libraries during the beta period. This will require you to scan, match, and upload songs again.
# The ‘scan and match’ service is not fully enabled yet and that some songs may not be recognized as matches even if they are on the iTunes store. These songs will be uploaded to iCloud regardless of their status. Other songs may match to a different version of the same song on the iTunes Store.
# Users can also only add music from one computer at a time.
# Users can use iTunes Match on up to 10 computers and iOS devices, up to five of which can be computers authorized with your Apple ID.
# Also note that some of the features and optimizations of iTunes Match may not be available during this beta.
# After updating to iOS 5 beta 7, if music may fail to play, turn off iTunes Match in Settings –> Music –> and turn it back on.
Although the iTunes Match service is in beta the $24.99 yearly price tag still applies but developers will get three months free for participating.
