Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt has denied the claims that Google has already submitted a Google Maps app to the Apple’s App Store and is waiting for approval from the later. With this, the rumor about the Google’s Maps app for Apple’s iPhone has come to an end.
There had been numerous rumors that the Google has come out with the Apple’s Maps app for the iPhone after Apple has launched its iPhone 5, iOS 6 with its ineffective Maps app. This rumor made the iPhone adopters quite concerned, whether Apple is going to approve Google’s better Maps app. But at last it has been revealed that Google has made no move to provide Google Maps for the iPhone 5 after Apple Inc. dropped the application in favor of a home-grown but controversial alternative.
In a launch event at Tokyo, Eric Schmidt said, “We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call.”
He further said, “We have not done anything yet,” and stated that Google and Apple were in constant communication “at all kinds of levels.” But he said any decision on the approval of Google Maps app for Apple’s App Store would have to be made by Apple.
The relationship between Google and Apple was tensed by the rise of Google’s Android mobile operating system, the world’s leading platform for smartphones.
In Japan, Eric Schmidt announces the launch of Google’s Nexus tablet and shows off a new function of Google Maps app in the device. The new Google Maps app of the new Google’s Nexus tablet allows users to shift their view of an area by moving the device in the air without touching the screen, as similar one to the effect of looking around.
