Skype has officially rolled out an updated version of its iOS app that brings two-way video calling to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. We’ve already alerted you about Skype app with Video calling capabilities to get released in 2011, but surprisingly, Skype has just launched the latest version of Skype for the iOS platform, which offers Skype to Skype video calls from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad via Wi-Fi or 3G connection to get or receive the free Skype video calls. The new Skype 3.0 for iPhone app is fully compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 4th generation. Additionally, you’ll be able to receive video from others if you’re using an iPad or a third-generation iPod touch. The service is free and works over both Wi-Fi and 3G. To ensure the best quality, Skype is suggesting to use a Wi-Fi network with a strong signal.
iPad and iPod touch 3rd generation owners can receive video calls, but can’t send video back due to the lack of camera on these devices, but hopefully the iPad 2 will include the front-facing camera that we’re looking forward to. Calls can be made between devices using the new Skype for iPhone app and desktops including Skype for Windows 4.2 and above, Skype for Mac 2.8 and above, Skype for Linux and ASUS Videophone. Skype will not charge for the video calls, although network operators may charge for the data traffic
The best thing is that they will also be able to communicate with desktop users on OS X and Windows and this app works in three conditions — iPhone-to-iPhone (both Wi-Fi), iPhone-to-desktop (both Wi-Fi), and again iPhone-to-iPhone (both 3G). Skype 3.0 app is available for free from iTunes Stores, weighing 11.9 MB of size.
