A few hours ago, we reported about the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean update for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 devices. Reports are now flooding in that the Google has also flipped the switch on the release of the Android 4.2.1 update for the Nexus 7 tablets to fix the December bug in the People app, which wasn’t letting the users to add the birthdays or any important dates that coming up in December month. The update brings just minor edits to bump the version number. The new build number is JOP40D.

It’s just a minor update, which happens to clock in at 1.1MB size. To make sure you have received the Android 4.2.1 update, head over to Settings > About Tablet > Software updates and hit that button. You may also try hitting up Settings > Apps > All > Google Services Framework > Force Stop and then clear Google Services Framework to trigger the update.

Instructions below for users with custom recovery

# Download the appropriate update file from the above links
# Copy the update file to your internal storage.
# Reboot into your custom recovery.
# Select “install zip from sd card” and scroll over to the update file.
# Flash it, and wait until it finishes
# That’s it, add your contacts and other important events on coming up in December.

Users running a stock recovery, can install the update via ADB by using “adb sideload <filename>”. be sure to take a full backup before proceeding to flash it.
