Huawei has begun its event with a bang at CES 2013 event in Vegas by announcing a couple of high-end powerful Androids – a 5-inch Ascend D2 smartphone and a 6.1-inch Ascend Mate phablet.
Huawei Ascend D2
We’ve already seen many leaks of the Huawei Ascend D2 handset over the past few weeks, and it has also made an early appearance yesterday ahead of its official announcement. This beast packs a 5-inch 1080p Full HD Super Retina display with 1080 by 1920 pixels of resolution, as well as a pixel density of 443PPI, and it has got very thin bezel. It is IPX 5/4-certified for water and dust resistant.
Ascend D2 ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with Motion UI on top of it, and runs on the Huawei-made K3V2 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, and is built with anti-scratch Corning Gorilla glass, and has a 13MP Exmor RS camera sensor with high level ISO sensitivity and it is capable of 1080p video recording. There’s a support for Dolby surrounding sound and stereo recording, and it packs a powerful 3000mAh battery, which is optimized by Huawei’s QPC and ADRX smart power-saving technology.
Connectivity wise, it has got HSPA, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and FM radio, and you will get a 32GB onboard storage, 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately, it doesn’t comes with a microSD card slot and 4G LTE connectivity.
The manufacturer also announced Ascend D2 will be available in a separate 4.7=inch version, but there was no word on in-depth features of the separate edition. The 5-inch Ascend D2 will be first made available in Chinese markets this month for an unknown price tag.
Huawei Ascend Mate
The Huawei Ascend Mate, is a phablet, and its design pretty similar to the Ascend D2, save for the larger display and some other specifications. According to the manufacturer, it has the slimmest bezel in business, as its screen covers 73% of its front panel. Ascend Mate will be offered in a 6.1-inch HD IPS LCD display with 720p resolution, while Ascend D2 has got a 5” 1080p screen.
Huawei Ascend Mate will be backed up the same Hi-Silicon 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and its 4050mAh battery provides up to two days of regular usage and fastest battery charging capability of smartphones to save over 30% of battery charging time. The rest of the specs including – 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, dual MIC noise reduction technology, Dolby sound system and stereo recording, an Augmented Reality navigation app, ‘Smart Reading’ functionality allowing quick reference to dictionaries, as well as an exclusive ‘Swift Sharing’ to upload pictures, videos quickly. Do no worry, Ascend Mate sports a microSD slot.
Ascend Mate will have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with Huawei’s custom made Motion UI on top of it and will first hit the Chinese markets this February, but its pricing is yet to be announced. It is rumored to be priced at $480.
