One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), a non-profit organization headquartered in the United States has unveiled a new 7-inch tablet, XO running Android mobile Operating system at the CES 2013 event in Las Vegas.
The XO tablet sports a Dual-Core 1GHz Marvell Armada chip, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and its internal memory can be expanded via microSD card. The device has a 1024×600 pixel resolution, two cameras, a MicroUSB port, Wi-Fi and more. This tablet actually appears to be similar to the Google Nexus 7.
This new tablet has an education software package for children and it includes parental controls and helps in learning. OLPC’s education projects have been providing tablets to children in developing countries. It seems they are also interested in third party rugged tablets for children. Speaking of which yesterday, Polaroid introduced a 7-inch low-priced Android tablet which is specially designed for children. This tablet includes all the fun and educational content that ensures parents a peace of mind.
The XO tablet will be available at Walmart store later this year. Sakar International, based in Edison, New Jersey, will offer the 7- inch Android tablet of its own design and it will be marketed as the “XO Tablet”. Sakar has the exclusive right to sell the tablet to leading US retailers for both in-store and online sales.
OLPC didn’t reveal official price tag of the tablet at the event but we hope that they will announce further information very soon since the tablet has been debuted.
