Samsung Electronics is now planning to introduce its first smartphone powered by Tizen mobile operating system in July or August.
Tizen powered devices will be showcased by the Tizen Association at Mobile World congress in Barcelona, Spain.
The information about the introduction of Samsung’s device with Tizen OS was confirmed through an email from Samsung stating “We plan to release new, competitive Tizen devices within this year and will keep expanding the lineup depending on market conditions,”
You can note that Tizen is a Linux-based open-source operating system that can power mobile phones, smart TVs and in-vehicle entertainment systems. The Tizen standard is jointly governed by Intel and Samsung and was established in 2011 after Intel joined the project in September 2011.
It is reported that Japanese mobile carrier, NTT DoCoMo also agreed to carry the mobile devices running Tizen mobile OS this year.
Samsung has been offering offering several mobile devices running Google’s Android mobile operating system. Besides Android, the South Korean manufacturer is now offering Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system in devices such Samsung ATIV S and ATIV Odyssey smartphones.
In addition to Tizen, you can note that different mobile manufacturers will pack Ubuntu mobile OS on their respective mobile devices and the devices are expected to be available later this year or early in 2014. But there’s no confirmation whether Samsung will also offer Ubuntu powered devices or not.
