At Google Event, On February 2nd, Android’s chief Andy Rubin lifts the curtain and gave in-depth review of the latest tablet optimized operating system from Android developers, Android 3.0, which is known as Honeycomb. Android devs gave an impressive performances, from a new notification bar area, to a new graphics engine, along with various new APIs so that it will work better with the larger screen tablets packing with some high-end features such as dual-core processors. Honeycomb is the first Android version that natively supports multi-core. Andy Rubin gave some additional details about Honeycomb OS. Take a look at the following features.
All the new features and all the UI refinements were shown, and the Web-based Android Market launched and it is live right now. The site’s URL is: market.android.com. In-app purchases will also be coming to Android Market. Ok let’s talk about the delicious Honeycomb. The beneficial thing is that Honeycomb will be backwards compatible with older apps. The popular game Fruit Ninja was also demonstrated on stage running on the Motorola XOOM. Moreover, both 2D and 3D apps will run without any hang-up on the operating system, making full use of the tablet’s capabilities.
Android 3.0 Honeycomb features a redesigned user interface, fully optimized for tablet use. There’s a new notification area to feature more information per notification and allows you to toss away one notification at a time. There’s also a new multitasking button that allows you to switch between running apps quickly and lots of new features.
The good thing is that hardware acceleration can be added to existing Android apps, by simply adding one line of code. Google has demonstrated the redesigned camera interface, which now tallies much more settings on one screen and they’ve also demoed video chat using G-Talk and a new application demonstrated by CNN team that features live streaming video from CNN and its consorts around the globe. And other demos of fluid eReader, – the music player, Google Maps vector engine that shows buildings when you zoom in closer to the ground, Google Books– smooth page turning, and a host of other applications.
Google has announced that “buyer currency” support will be coming to Android Market. Another interesting app Google Body demonstrated – Users can discover the names of different parts of the human bodies, from the outer skin level down to the skeletal structure, with a search function for you to easily situate different parts.
