Adobe has officially confirmed that it will release the Flash Player 10.2 for Android OS — Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices, on March 18th. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb version is a beta release but will also get exceptional treatment that require Google’s 3.0.1 system update and it will bring the support for hardware accelerated, HD, H.264 video content using the Stage Video rendering pipeline and deep browser integration. Froyo devices won’t get the both these full functionalities.
The update will bring the improved performance through hardware acceleration and take the full advantage of the dual-core chipsets in the phones LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix and the tablet Motorola Xoom should make it easier for developers to optimize desktop apps for use on full-touchscreen smartphones and tablets.
The incorporated ActionScript API allows developers to automatically include and show a new soft keyboard and it should be easier for developers to optimize desktop apps for use on full-touchscreen smartphones and tablets.
Flash Player 10.2 improves webpage scrolling, particularly when mixed with animated GIF images and other more perplexed content and better support for websites that carry out HTML content on top of Flash Player content.
Apart from being available through the Android Market from March 18th, Flash Player 10.2 will come pre-installed on the upcoming smartphones and tablets. It is also scheduled to be delivered as an OTA update for the existing Android devices. For a list of upcoming Flash-enabled devices, Click here.
