Kindle eBook reader is the best-selling product of all time on Amazon website. Is Amazon really bringing a tablet later this year?
Well, sources are confirming that the world’s largest online retailer, Amazon is now prepping a tablet to reach the consumers in the second half of this year, 2011. Confirmed by the tech-site DigiTimes, Amazon has reportedly placed orders with Taiwan-based Quanta Computer manufacturers to build its first ever tablet PC. According to the report, BlackBerry PlayBook’s manufacturer Quanta has received orders for 700,000 to 800,000 tablets from Amazon, and the finished devices should begin shipping in the second half of 2011.
The report claims that the Amazon’s tablet will have an Fringe Field Switching LCD screen made by E Ink Holding, and it is said to be based on the Android platform. We still don’t have any details regarding its Android version (HoneyComb?) , screen size and resolution, pre-installed Amazon features. It might be having dual cameras to support the video chat, since the ‘Video Chat’ option is a necessary feature these days to compete with the other tablets in the market.
We are sure that the Amazon’s upcoming tablet will support the recently launched Amazon AppStore, Cloud Player, and Amazon’s digital music. Can Amazon’s new tablet give a tough competition to Apple iPad, Samsung’s new Galaxy Tabs and other tablets ? We will get to know soon.
