Good news for everyone who is still rocking the AT&T branded LG Phoenix handset, which has been released along with LG Thrive handset back in April of last year. Unfortunately, the carrier lets you to run this handset with Froyo OS till today. Now, the manufacturer has officially announced the good news that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG Phoenix handset is available to grab. The worst part of this story is that you’ll have to use LG Support Tool to download the Gingerbread update on your Phoenix handset, as the update isn’t coming in OTA fashion. But at least the update is finally out there.

You’ve to download a couple of software tools form the links provided here at below in order to upgrade the LG Phoenix handset with Gingerbread version.

# You need to download the LG United Mobile Driver Tool (hit the link) and install it on your Windows running PC machine.
# Restart the PC machine after installing the downloaded tool form the above link.
# Now download the LG Mobile Support Tool (hit the link).
# Install the downloaded LG Support Tool on your PC machine.
# Attach the LG Phoenix handset to your PC using the USB cable.
# Make sure that your device is fully charged, take a full backup of your device and remove the SD card.
# Launch the LG Mobile Support Tool on your PC.
# Now click on the ‘Start Updating’ button on the LG Mobile Support tool to begin the upgrade process.
# Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the upgrade successfully.
# That’s it. Enjoy the Gingerbread goodies on your handset.

LG has yet to release the Gingerbread update for the LG Thrill 4G handset. Other manufacturers are working on to release the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, but LG is still playing around with Gingerbread.
