It seems HTC is gearing up to release a mid-range spec’d Android OS powered handset in the coming weeks. Thanks to the folks over at The Verge, we now have our clearest idea yet of what HTC’s upcoming device will look like. The source has leaked a new press shot of the purported “HTC Proto” handset. HTC “Proto” could be the next entry in the company’s “One” series. It is believed to be the successor of the HTC One V and various rumors suggested that it might be launched as One V+.

HTC “Proto” will feature a slightly larger display, upgraded processor than the HTC One V and it is expected to pack a 4-inch display WVGA display with 480 X 800 pixels of resolution, a 5-megapixel camera, a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 S4 processor, capacitive button at bottom, soft touch coating on the back and is just 9.62 millimeters thin. The source has the mentioned the handset’s design as “a rounded, flowing case that more closely mimics the higher-end models in the One range.”

You can also observe that the HTC “Proto” isn’t sporting squared-off design and the typical “chin” from One V handset. We already know that HTC is also working on the One X+, codenamed “Endeavour C2”, which is rumored to be powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, an improved battery. The low-end spec’d HTC Proto is expected to be introduced at IFA in Berlin and release ahead of the holidays, while the HTC One X+ set for a September release.
