Samsung has launched a dedicated webpage for a special unlocked version of the Galaxy Note II 16GB Developer Edition for Verizon Wireless users on its official website. You already know that Verizon branded Galaxy Note II edition comes with locked and encrypted bootloaders and it has been available for a few weeks. It’s worth noting that the folks over XDA Developers Forum (developer Adam Outler) have released bootloader unlock for Verizon Note II phablet.
We’re still not sure whether or not the developer edition of the Galaxy Note II will ship with an unlocked bootloader. If yes, Samsung should come up with an official method to unlock its bootloader and it can be hacked open pretty easily. This edition is specifically preferable for those who are heavily interested in custom ROMs (like CyanogenMod) and want to make any tweaks, change the user interface, or modifications to the operating system. It packs a massive 5.5” Super HD AMOLED display, revamped S-Pen stylus, 1.5GHz Exynos quad-core processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, 8MP back camera, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 64GB, 4G LTE radio, 3,100mAhbattery and it boots Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS out of the box.
Unfortunately, this edition won’t be available to purchase on-contract with subsidies and you can grab it directly from Samsung. Samsung has yet to announce the launch date and price info of the Galaxy Note II developer edition.
