That was fast. Just a couple of days ago, the South Korean manufacturer promised to fix the terrible “Sudden Death” issue on Samsung Galaxy S III handsets with a firmware issue. According to a reliable source, Sammy has started pushing out a new software update for the Galaxy S III handsets, fixing a set of bugs that causes some serious problems for the owners. The source says that the update is carrying a fix for the “Sudden Death” issue that many Galaxy S III handsets that have been suffered with and it will resolve the hardware failures on GSIII motherboards. Of course, if you’ve such a device, you can take it to a Samsung repair centre. But, the reports are yet to confirm about whether or not this issue has been resolved, as there is no changelog from Samsung.
The new firmware update is now rolling out in some parts of the UK, and it bumps the build number up to JZO54K.I9300XXELLA. The software version version remains at Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean build and the build date is December 22nd. The update also fixes the Exynos 4 vulnerability, that lets any app to root and gain full access to Exynos 4 powered devices, giving full access to physical memory to malicious apps. The update also contains some security fixes, including an update to bootloader to prevent custom flash counter resetting.
The update is now rolling out in stages and will hit all devices very soon. You can see if the update is available on your device, head into Settings > About phone > Software Update.
