We’ve been hearing about the Motorola ThinkPhone over the past few months. Finally, Lenovo has showcased the ThinkPhone at CES 2023. Lenovo says they have designed this phone to appeal to business customers and integrate seamlessly with Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. It comes packed with high-end specs, extensive security features in a very well-balanced durable body.

The back of the ThinkPhone is made with aramid to give you silky soft-touch feel. It sports a big 6.6-inch FHD+ OLED screen and two rear cameras (plus a depth sensor): a 50-megapixel stabilized standard wide with Optical Image Stabilization, and a 13-megapixel ultrawide, while the front camera is 32 megapixels. For its first enterprise smartphone outing, Lenovo has included the high-end Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is accompanied by 8 and 12 GB version of RAM. There are also UFS 3.1 options: 128, 256, up to 512 GB UFS 3.1.

For fuelling the device, it has a 5,000 mAh battery, 68-watt fast charging (68W charger included), and it also supports wireless charging. To give a look similar to Lenovo’s ThinkPad line, Lenovo has adopted an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, Kevlar-like “lightweight aramid fiber that’s stronger than steel – together with the ThinkPhone logo. It has also got Gorilla Glass Victus to give the phone a strong protection for the display, as well as an IP68 rating for proper water resistance.

The ThinkPhone has Moto KeySafe, which Lenovo refers to as “a separate processor,” that provides an additional layer of security by isolating PINs, passwords, and cryptographic keys, and storing them in a tamper-resistant environment. There is an extra red button on the left side, which looks like a ThinkPad TrackPoint, and functions as a customizable key.

Lenovo introduced Think 2 Think connectivity, which lets a ThinkPhone and a ThinkPad to connect automatically when nearby and on the same Wi-Fi network. They have included a bunch of features to take advantage of this Thin 2 Think connectivity:

  • Instant Connect: The phone and PC will discover each other when nearby and connected to the same WiFi network.
  • Unified Clipboard: Android apps can be opened on the laptop, including launching with one click, and you can copy or capture text and images from the ThinkPhone and paste them instantly onto your PC.
  • Drag & Drop File Sharing: Similarly, files can be transferred across devices through a dedicated sharing hub.
  • Advanced Webcam: It lets you use the phone’s 50-megapixel camera for higher-res video quality online meetings.
  • Instant Hotspot: A one-click toggle lets PC users seamlessly dial into the ThinkPhone’s mobile connection.

The phone will ship with Android 13, and will get three years of OS version upgrades and four years of security updates. There’s no word yet on the proper release date and pricing yet. Motorola says it will be released in the coming months in the US, Europe, Latin America, the Near East, Australia and selected Asian countries, including China.
