Motorola has announced a bunch of affordable smartphones in its G-series for global markets, aiming at budget-conscious shoppers. This lineup includes: Moto G73 5G, G53 5G, G23, and G13. In this article, we are covering about 5G capable Moto G73 and Moto G53 phones.
The Moto G73 5G is touting to be the more premium device in the entire lineup, announced today. It comes with upgraded specifications over its predecessor which was launched in last year. On the other side, the Moto G53 5G, which was already launched in China last month, and the global variant announced today, carrying the same specifications.
Moto G73
The Moto G73 5G is made out of plastic and has a water-repellent design. It features a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout display measuring at 6.5-inches offering an FHD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,400px resolution (20:9))and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has thick chin at the bottom. Under the hood, it is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 930 processor, which is paired up with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage, which is expandable using microSD card slot. This chipset also brings a 5G sub-6GHz modem, which is a big upgrade over the previous-gen Moto G72
For photography, it carries a dual camera setup on the back side: a 50MP primary sensor with fairly large 1.0µm pixels (2.0µm with 4-in-1 binning), along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118° field of view and autofocus. Yes, the 108MP camera of the G72 is downgraded to 50MP. Up the front, there’s a 16MP front-facing selfie shooter. The entire device will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 30W fast charging.
It also has 3.5mm headphone jack on the side, and stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. The Moto G73 2ill ship with the latest stock Android 13 OS out of the box. For connectivity, you will get Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC.
Moto G53
The Moto G53 is powered by the Snapdragon 480+ SoC (instead of the Snapdragon 680, which was used in its predecessor). The handset will be offered with different configurations – 4, 6 or 8GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of storage, which is also expandable up to 1TB.
Moto G53 has the same display, battery capacity, and charging speed as the G73 5G. It sits on a 6.5” LCD with 720 x 1,600px resolution (20:9). To recall, the Moto G52 had a 6.6” 1080p display (90Hz AMOLED). Just like the Moto G73, there’s a 16MP selfie camera located in the punch hole of the display.
On the back, the 50MP primary camera with 0.64µm pixels (1.28µm with binning), is coupled with an 8MP macro unit (118°) without autofocus. The device draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery which has charging speeds limited to just 10W (which will be increased to 18W for the Latin American variants). It has also got face unlock, and fingerprint sensor mounted in the power button for security purposes.
Just like Moto G73, this device also has a plastic shell with a water-repellent design. There is a USB-C 2.0 port and a 3.5mm jack on the bottom, also on board are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
Price & Availability
The Motorola G73 5G starts at EUR 299 for the base variant 8/256GB memory, whereas the G53 5G comes with starting price tag of EUR 249 for the 4/128GB model. The G73 will be sold in Midnight Blue and Lucent White colours while the latter will be available in Pale Pink, Ink Blue, and Arctic Silver colours. Both smartphones will be available to purchase in Europe today and will also travel to select markets in Latin America and Asia in the coming weeks.
