Late last year, Twitter has introduced $8 per month rate for Twitter Blue (web pricing) which includes a blue, verified checkmark. Earlier, this Blue tick privilege was only available to public figures like journalists, politicians, and celebrities. In a similar move today, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta Verified, a subscription bundle to help up-and-coming creators grow their presence and build community faster.
Facebook has started rolling out its new Meta Verified subscription service to users in the Australia and New Zealand, as per an announcement. Facebook is currently the most used social media tool in the UK and in many parts of the world. This new subscription service provides users with multiple new features, key of which is to increase visibility and reach. It confirms your identity with a government ID. It also gets you a blue badge on your Instagram and Facebook accounts, as well as an extra impersonation protection against claiming to be you.
Subscribers will get exclusive stickers on Facebook and Instagram Stories and Facebook Reels, and 100 free stars a month on Facebook, so they can show their support for other creators. Facebook confirms that existing accounts that are already verified based on prior requirements, such as authenticity and notability, will remain unaffected.
Facebook also confirms that once your profile is verified, you can’t change the profile name, username, date of birth, or photo on your profile without going through the Meta Verified subscription and verifications application process again.
With Meta Verified, you’ll get:
- A verified badge, confirming you’re the real you and that your account has been authenticated with a government ID.
- More protection from impersonation with proactive account monitoring for impersonators who might target people with growing online audiences.
- Help when you need it with access to a real person for common account issues.
- Increased visibility and reach with prominence in some areas of the platform– like search, comments and recommendations.
- Exclusive features to express yourself in unique ways.
The new Meta Verification service is now available through Instagram or Facebook for $11.99 per month for Web, or $14.99 for iOS and Android platforms. To be specific, Australia users have to pay AUD 19.99 on web, AUD 24.99 on iOS and Android, and it costs NZD 23.99 on web, NZD 29.99 on iOS and Android in New Zealand. This service is now rolling out in the Australia and New Zealand, and will be available in more countries in the coming days.
Do you still think people will spend money on Facebook or Twitter for just getting a little badge next to their name? Is it worth the money? In fact, Twitter Blue subscription has already become a huge hit, and most of the Twitter users are rooting up for this paid subscription. It’s worth mentioning that Meta Verified subscription is unrelated to twitter’s program. Meta is actually doing verification, not just charging for a badge. And it comes with service.
