The clamshell foldable form factor is becoming increasingly popular in the smartphone market, and Vivo’s entry into this space is sure to generate a lot of interest among consumers. Last year, a schematic of vivo’s new X Flip foldable clamshell was revealed by tipster Digital Chat Station, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the Chinese phone maker’s first entry into the clamshell foldable market. It’s expected to pack the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and hit the Chinese market sometime in early 2023.
The upcoming Vivo X Flip foldable clamshell is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. But the real standout feature of this device is its camera setup. The phone’s design, as illustrated, will feature a spacious cover display with a dual camera island positioned above it.
According to Digital Chat Station, the camera setup on the Vivo X Flip is poised to be a major highlight. The rear cameras are expected to feature a 50MP Sony IMX866 primary sensor and a 12MP IMX663 ultra-wide sensor, while the third camera on the inside will be located in the center of the foldable clamshell device. Although the resolution of the front-facing camera is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to be housed in a punch hole design. As with other Vivo flagship models, the rear cameras on the X Flip will be branded by Zeiss, which is a testament to the phone maker’s commitment to offering a premium photography experience to its users. With such advanced camera features, it will be exciting to see what kind of photos and videos the Vivo X Flip is capable of capturing.
The Vivo X Flip is expected to boast an impressive FHD+ resolution on its internal display, which could measure 6.8 inches diagonally and feature a speedy 120Hz refresh rate. The phone’s aspect ratio is predicted to be slimmer than the Moto Razr 2022, but not quite as narrow as the Galaxy Z Flip4. Rumor has it that the X Flip’s screen may even rival that of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels.
In addition to its impressive camera and display specs, the X Flip is expected to have a notable battery and fast charging capability. With a 4,400mAh battery and 44W fast charging support, it’s set to outdo many other flip phones on the market. Only the Oppo Find N2 Flip offers comparable specs with a 4,300mAh battery and 44W charging.
Digital Chat Station has shared another interesting detail about the X Flip – the phone will have a conveniently placed side-mounted fingerprint reader, possibly built into the power button itself. This feature will not only provide added security, but also easy access to the device for its users.
With the anticipated release of the vivo X Flip just around the corner, it is speculated that teasers will be dropped as early as next week before the phone is unveiled in China next month. The release of this flip foldable could provide some much-needed competition in the market, as there aren’t many similar devices currently available.
It is still unclear whether the company intends to limit its release to the Chinese market or expand its availability to other regions like Europe and India. It’s possible that Vivo could be waiting to gauge the success of the Vivo X Flip in China before deciding whether to release it in other markets. So, there is a chance that the Vivo X Flip may eventually become available in other markets. Additionally, there are reports that a vivo X Fold 2 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will also be released soon, adding to the excitement for vivo fans.
