Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a users rejoice, we have good news for you. Last week, Google rolled out the March 2023 security update for its Pixel devices ( Pixel 4a-5a and the 7 series), which included various bug and vulnerability fixes. However, Pixel 6 series users were left disappointed as their devices were not part of the update. Fortunately, it seems that Google has now released the update to Pixel 6 users, providing them with essential vulnerability fixes and performance enhancements.
It has been reported that severe vulnerabilities have been found in Samsung Exynos modems. Google confirmed that the issue had been resolved for Pixel devices with the release of the March 2023 security update. The company advised users to disable VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling until the update was available. However, it remains unclear whether this issue was the sole cause for the delay in rolling out the update to Pixel 6 series users.
The latest security update is a significant release for Pixel users as it addresses several critical vulnerabilities, the most important being the screenshot issue. Recently, users discovered that it was possible to retrieve sensitive information from a screenshot taken with a Pixel device and edited using the markup tool. Fortunately, the update patches this vulnerability, but it’s worth noting that it doesn’t address previously shared screenshots with sensitive data. As a precautionary measure, users are advised to locate and remove such images from public forums or services.
The Pixel 6 series has received a plethora of over 40 fixes with this latest update, while the Pixel 6a has received specific fixes to enhance haptic feedback, resolve bootloader unlocking issues, and address a problem that prevented the device from booting to Android in certain circumstances.
In addition to bug fixes and security updates, the latest Pixel update also includes some user interface improvements. For instance, a large digital clock has been added to the full Quick Settings page, making it easier to see the time at a glance. The carrier name is now displayed above the status bar icons, and the battery percentage has been replaced with a remaining day/hour estimate, providing users with a more accurate estimate of how much time is left before their phone needs to be charged.
The Pixel Launcher also received some tweaks to padding and folder size, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface. Finally, Health Connect, an app that enables users to connect their Pixel device to a wide range of health and wellness apps, is now pre-installed, making it easier than ever to track and manage your health on the go.
