Samsung is reportedly in the process of developing its latest foldable smartphone offerings, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, with plans to unveil them within the next five to six months. There have been numerous leaks and rumors surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, and now, the US versions of both phones have been spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. This has given us a sneak peek into the key specifications of these devices.
Geekbench results reveal that both devices exhibit exceptional performance, even surpassing that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The benchmark results confirm that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (SM-F946U) and Galaxy Z Flip 5 (SM-F731U) will be equipped with the same chipset as the Galaxy S23 series, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 “for Galaxy,” which boasts a primary “super” core with a frequency of 3.36GHz, slightly higher than that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 3.2GHz. This chipset is expected to provide exceptional performance to both devices, setting them apart from other smartphones currently available on the market.
Despite sharing similar hardware, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected to outperform the Galaxy S23 Ultra in the benchmark’s single-core tests, demonstrating their impressive capabilities and marking them as exciting additions to Samsung’s foldable phone lineup.
According to these performance tests, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected to outperform Samsung’s current flagship phone, despite all three devices utilizing the same SoC. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 don’t feature a “Plus” variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2; instead, they use an overclocked “for Galaxy” chipset.
In terms of benchmark scores, both the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 achieved a little over 2,000 points in single-core tests. The multi-core scores of the devices were also impressive, with the Z Fold 5 achieving a score of 5,022, and the Z Flip 5 performing even better with a score of 5,213. It’s noteworthy that the flip phone outperformed the book-like foldable in the latter category.
The benchmark tests also revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has 8GB. These specifications are expected to provide users with a fast and responsive experience, making the upcoming foldable phones highly sought after by technology enthusiasts.
Upon closer inspection of the benchmark tests, it has become evident that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 exhibit similar performance levels, with any differences in scores likely due to the devices being benchmarked in Geekbench 6 instead of Geekbench 5.
On the other hand, it is noteworthy that the Galaxy S23 Ultra (SM-S918B) achieved approximately 1,500 points in single-core tests and between 4,400 and 5,000 points in multi-core tests, whereas the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 have displayed remarkable performance capabilities despite using the same chipset as the S23 series. In particular, these upcoming foldable devices achieved significantly higher scores in single-core benchmarks.
Samsung is slated to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 at the upcoming Unpacked event, which is expected to take place in August or September, following the company’s previous release schedules.
