In the past, Motorola had introduced the Moto G 5G as an affordable 5G device. In 2022, the company launched the Moto G 5G (2022) as a successor to that phone. Now, Motorola has released a new model of the Moto G 5G at a reduced cost. Alongside the Moto G 5G (2023), Motorola has also announced the latest version of the Moto G Stylus. Both phones have undergone cost-cutting measures, which have lowered their prices but also resulted in some limited features.
The latest versions of the Moto G 5G and Moto G Stylus have undergone cost-cutting measures to reduce their price, with the former starting at $249 and the latter starting at $199. Despite the price reductions, the phones maintain a similar look to their predecessors and are expected to offer a reliable and affordable 5G experience for users.
Moto G 5G (2023)
Despite the cost-cutting measures, the new Moto G 5G (2023) does come with some upgrades compared to its predecessor. While there are a few features that have been downgraded, the phone still offers a lot of value for its lower price point. It’s possible that this phone could become one of the top Android phones of 2023 that costs less than $300, although further testing will be needed to determine its full capabilities.
The Moto G 5G (2023) ships with sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, courtesy of a Snapdragon 480+ chipset. While the Snapdragon 480+ may not be as powerful as some of its predecessors, it should still provide solid performance for everyday use. That means, the Snapdragon 480+ chipset in the Moto G 5G (2023) may not be as impressive as the Snapdragon 750G found in the 2020 model or the Dimensity 700 featured in the 2022 model, but it still offers sub-6GHz 5G connectivity.
The Moto G 5G (2023) is priced quite competitively at $250, which is significantly cheaper than the $400 MSRP of the 2022 model. The phone will be available for purchase from various retailers and carriers including Motorola.com, Best Buy, Amazon, T-Mobile, Metro, AT&T, Boost Infinite, Boost Mobile, Cricket, Google Fi, US Cellular, and Consumer Cellular starting from May 25.
In addition, the phone will also be available in Canada from select retailers and carriers later this year. Overall, the Moto G 5G (2023) seems to offer a good value proposition for users looking for an affordable 5G phone.
The Snapdragon 480+ chip is coupled with 4GB of RAM, but unfortunately, it looks like a 6GB variant isn’t available. There are also only 64GB or 128GB storage options, unlike last year’s model, which skipped the 128GB model for a larger 256GB option.
The Moto G 5G (2023) retains the same 6.5-inch LCD panel with an HD+ resolution, but now comes with an upgraded 120Hz refresh rate. The phone features a dual rear camera system, highlighted by a 48MP main sensor that’s paired with a dedicated macro camera. For selfies, there’s an 8MP front-facing camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.
The Moto G 5G (2023) boasts a water-resistant design and is 8.4mm slim, weighing in at 189g. You can find a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom of the device, alongside the USB-C port, which serves both charging the 5,000mAh battery at 15W and data transfer (USB 2.0). The device also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos technology for an immersive audio experience.
Moto G Stylus (2023)
The Moto G Stylus (2023) comes with a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, which only supports LTE connectivity. However, given that last year’s Moto G Stylus 5G was one of the best phones, we expect Motorola to release a 5G version of the phone later this year.
The new Moto G Stylus (2023) will be available in the US starting May 5th for a price of $200, which is a significant price drop from the 2022 model that sold for $300 for a 4/128GB unit. It’s worth noting that the previous model did not have a 4/64GB option, and the price has dropped to $170 over time. Additionally, the new Moto G Stylus comes with Android 13 out of the box, a significant upgrade from the Android 11 that the previous model launched with.
The Moto G Stylus (2023) shares several specs with the Moto G 5G (2023), including an HD+ display of the same size and refresh rate (90Hz), the same amount of RAM and storage options, and identical battery specifications. Both smartphones also run on Android 13, feature Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers, and lack NFC capabilities.
The handset also features a water-repellent design and comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W charging. The phone has a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom, and it also comes with stereo speakers that are tuned by Dolby Atmos. The fingerprint reader is mounted on the side for added convenience.
In contrast, the previous generation boasted a massive 6.8-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz, making it a better choice for drawing and sketching with the stylus. However, the new model features a smaller 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with only HD+ resolution and the same 90Hz refresh rate, which may not be as optimal for stylus use.

Moto G Stylus (2023) having a 50MP main sensor with 1080p video recording capabilities, which is not very common. Most likely, the camera setup includes a lower resolution sensor capable of shooting 1080p video at 30fps, but the exact specifications have not been specified in the article.
The Moto G Stylus (2023) will be launched initially through Motorola.com, Best Buy, and Amazon on May 5, with carriers such as Cricket and Straight Talk following in the upcoming months. The phone will be available in two color options, Midnight Blue or Glam Pink. On the other hand, the Moto G 5G (2023) will be available starting May 25 through the same retailers and later on via select carriers such as T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and Google Fi.
