Traditionally, we have grown accustomed to witnessing the early disclosure of information regarding Pixel smartphones well in advance of their official release. However, today’s post about the upcoming Pixel 8 series was leaked in a remarkably casual manner. After the renders surfaced in March and the leaked video showcasing the temperature sensor in May, we now have an even clearer “hands-on” glimpse of the Pixel 8 Pro.
On Reddit, a user hastily shared images of a prototype of the Google Pixel 8 Pro, only to delete them shortly afterward. Comments indicate that the original poster didn’t fully consider the consequences, as they mentioned the possibility of needing a disposable account after acknowledging that the prototype originated from “the device team in Google for testing.”
The images of the Google Pixel 8 Pro shared on Reddit reveal a distinctive design element in the form of an identifying pattern, replacing the usual “G” logo. The individual behind the leak claimed to have obtained the prototype directly “from the device team in Google for testing.”
The bootloader screen of the leaked device provides confirmation of the “husky” code name and “ripcurrent” bootloader. Additionally, there is a “Zuma” sticker on the back, indicating the Tensor G3 code name. Notable specifications on this specific unit include 12GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of SKHynix storage.
In terms of physical appearance, the Google Pixel 8 Pro prototype aligns with previously leaked renders and images. Notably, it features a flat display, which is a departure from previous Pro models by Google. The rear camera module has undergone a redesign, with the three primary lenses housed within a single large “pill” configuration, unlike the “pill + circle” design found on the Pixel 7 Pro. As anticipated, the LED flash is located in its expected position, accompanied by the new temperature sensor situated below it.
The microphone cutout on the Google Pixel 8 Pro prototype is positioned between the first and second cameras, while other sensors are located below it. The flash and IR temperature sensor are visible adjacent to the microphone cutout. The image of the front screen showcases the Pixel 8 Pro within a case, but still reveals the presence of a flat display.
The anticipated launch window for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is in October. It’s highly probable that numerous additional leaks will surface in the intervening period, providing us with more insights and details about the devices leading up to their official release.
