Call it a shameless cheap publicity tactic but we don’t mind this. Major telecom providers in the U.S. including AT&T, Verizon are offering free calls to Japan all through this month. To be more specific, AT&T wireless postpaid users can make free calls and send free text messages to Japan between March 11th and March 31st from the US and Pureto Rico, while calls to Japan from the AT&T landlines will not be charged up to 60 minutes. Verizon has also announced that they will be offering similar service for calls made to Japan. Verizon Wireless postpaid users in the U.S. can make free calls to free text messaging to Japan from March 11 through April 10. Time Warner Cable (TWC) is also up to the task and announced that it will be providing free calls to Japan for its digital phone and business class phone subscribers. It’s good to see these telephony providers stepping up for the cause and extending their bit of help to the devastated people of Japan that was struck by a 8.9 magnitude earthquake followed by a powerful Tsunami last week.
