When Apple announced the iPhone 5 on Wednesday, there was no mention of just how much RAM the new iPhone was packing. As you know, Apple has traditionally kept calm about the specs inside of their iPhones. Last year’s iPhone 4S has got 512MB RAM, while the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G were packing 256MB and 128MB RAMs respectively. People always want to have a faster processor with more memory on their smartphones (or on PCs too), so that they can manage to perform some serious multi-tasking capabilities. So, how much the RAM/memory does the newly unveiled iPhone 5 have under the hood?
The folks over AnandTech have started digging the iPhone 5 and they have confirmed that iPhone 5 packs “two 512MB dies in a dual-channel LPDDR2 package with 32 bits per channel.” That’s a total of 1GB total, running at 8,528MB/sec, clocking at 1066MHz. The source has also examined the chip markings and confirmed that Apple has used A6 chip, which is a custom system-on-a-chip and the part number is K3PE7E700F-XGC2 )Samsung-sourced).
So, iPhone 5 has got 1GB of RAM, just like the new iPad (also known as iPad 3). Most of the current generation popular smartphones have included 1GB RAM inside. But, some smartphones have gone way ahead than the new iPhone 5. LG Optimus LTE 2, Samsung Galaxy S III and the newly launched LG Optimus G, Galaxy Note II devices are featuring whopping 2GB of RAM.
4-inch Reina display (326 PPI) featuring, 4G LTE capable iPhone 5 is now available for pre-order in the U.S. and some other regions of the world and will ship on September 21st. The iPhone 5 will be available at Apple’s retail locations, as well as carriers AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, and resellers like Walmart, Radio Shack and others, priced at $199 for 16GB edition, $299 for 32GB editions and 64GB will be available for $399. Apple has revealed pricings for unlocked iPhone 5 editions.
