Answering the questions posed at the All Things D, D9 conference today, AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega confirmed that the company is exploring the idea of shared data plans. This idea comes as many people have started carrying multiple devices and one may want to have a shared plan. Suppose you have an iPad, an Atrix 4G, an AT&T netbook and just want to have a unified plan of minutes and data, then the shared plan will be the answer.
The AT&T CEO said “Once you have so many devices that you’re carrying, you may want a shared plan. The more focus groups we do, the more we think that may be the way,” and he has confirmed that AT&T is working on it. But when asked about pricing and time frame, he didn’t commit to any time frame and didn’t give any hint about possible pricing.
It seems, it is going to take more time for the plan as he himself don’t have much information to share. He better have more details as soon as possible regarding the plan. As Verizon Wireless has already indicated that it may offer shared data plans in the near future. It will be a tough competition soon.
