A couple of days ago, we reported that HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G/XE/Xl handsets will updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS in the next few weeks very soon. But it looks like the AT&T branded 4G LTE capable HTC Vivid handset is being silently upgrading to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS build. But, AT&T has announced that there is no update officially being rolled out yet. The several folks over XDA Developers Forum have successfully manually upgraded their HTC Vivid handsets by using a simple code on the phone’s dialer pad.

If you own an AT&T branded HTC Vivid handset, you don’t need to hack or flash or root it to pull the update manually. All you have to do is to open you phone dialer pad and enter *#*#682#*#*. That’s it. I can bet the official Android 4.0.3 Ice cream Sandwich OS update will be downloaded right to your HTC Vivid handset. Along with the Android ICS goodies, you will also HTC sense 3.6 UI goodies for your handset. The update is pretty heavy, coming in at around 315MB of size.
Please keep in mind that you can not upgrade your handset is your handset’s bootloader is unlocked. No worries. You can relock the bootloader by using the official HTCDev.com’s bootloader relock tool on HTC’s Developer website. Since a few days, Australia based Telstra based HTC Velocity 4G handset has already being officially upgrading with Android 4.0 ICS, which is same version of the AT&T’s HTC Vivid handset. Acouple of screenshots after the break.
