Sony Mobile’s new Xperia flagship, the Xperia 1 V, has recently received certification from the FCC, indicating that the model is highly likely to be released as a new model for NTT Docomo, KDDI au, and SoftBank in the spring and summer of 2023.
Recently, benchmark scores for what is believed to be the NTT Docomo version of the Xperia 1 V have also been discovered. In the beginning of the previous month, we brought you news about the purported European edition of the Xperia 1 V, which had been discovered on Geekbench, displaying remarkable and outstanding benchmark scores.
The source suggests that the Xperia 1 V may be released as a new model for NTT DoCoMo in the spring/summer of 2023. However, it should be noted that the expected model format for the DoCoMo version of the Xperia for the 2023 release is SO-5xD, which is not mentioned in the benchmark score that was discovered.
It is important to mention that the domestic carrier version of the Xperia has a separate format for the “Manufacturer Model Name” called “PM-1xxxx-BV,” which may provide some clues as to the identity of the benchmarked device.
Overall, it is still unclear whether the device spotted in the benchmark score is actually the Xperia 1 V for DoCoMo, or a different model altogether. Further information will likely surface closer to the device’s release date.
However, the current benchmark score does not include the expected model format of SO-5xD for the DoCoMo version of the Xperia 1 V.
As can be seen in the screenshot provided, the device in question obtained a score of 1967 in single-core performance and 5144 in multi-core performance. While this does not confirm that the device is indeed the rumored Xperia 1 V for NTT Docomo, it does add to the speculation. The current format for the model number of Docomo’s 2023 new release Xperia phones is expected to be SO-5xD, which is not reflected in the benchmark score.
However, Japanese carrier versions of Xperia phones typically include a “manufacturer model name” format of “PM-1xxxx-BV,” and given that the manufacturer model name for the Xperia 5 IV is “PM-141x-BV,” it is reasonable to assume that “PM-142x-BV” refers to the new Xperia model for 2023. Additionally, it is worth noting that previous Xperia phones with a model number ending in “3” have typically been Docomo versions. While it is not certain that the benchmark score belongs to the Docomo version of the Xperia 1 V, if it does, then it may be released without significant delay compared to the overseas version of the Xperia 1 V.
