The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra leaks made their way to the internet since late last year. Almost everything (every tiny point) about the phone has been detailed, including its design, full specs, camera samples, 8K/4H video recordings, live images, as well as hands-on videos. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra arrived at Galaxy Unpacked 2022 today, alongside its smaller siblings Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, about which we covered in a separate article.
Just like its predecessor, the S23 Ultra with Note-esque redesign also brings an integrated S Pen for drawing, sketching, and writing with a dedicated built-in slot and borrowing the same design cues from the previous-gen S22 Ultra. It is slightly less curvy compared to last year’s model. The main highlight and the strongest selling point of this device would be the inclusion of a 200MP camera sensor, which is the first time for Galaxy S series phones released till now. In addition, it will have two telephoto sensors of 10MP with 3x and 10MP with 10x optical zoom.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra feels extremely premium in the hands as it boasts the classiest design of any flagship phone on the market today. It has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with Infinity-O Edge QHD+ resolution (3080x1440px) and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, as well as 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate. Like the Galaxy S23, and S23+, S23 Ultra model’s display is also much brighter, peaking at 1,750 nits.
The device will draw its power from Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 4nm, which is an exclusive chipset made for Galaxy S23 series with a prime CPU core clocked at 3.36GHz (instead of 3.2GHz) and the Adreno 740 GPU clocked at 719MHz (instead of 680MHz) for providing slightly faster speeds than the vanilla Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This model also features 256GGB/512GB/1TB UFS 4.0 storage and 8/12GB LPDDR5X RAM.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 200MP HP2 ISOCELL camera sensor with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size, features 0.56-micron pixels and has an F1.7 aperture. To recall, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108MP primary camera has 0.8µm pixels and an F1.8 aperture. This means that the 200MP camera sensor has smaller pixels, but the aperture is wider. It can also use pixel binning technology to convert to 1.12-micron pixels for 50MP shooting modes in poorer lighting conditions. In addition, it can combine even more pixels into one 2.24-micron pixel for a 12.5MP mode in low-light environments.
- 200 MP (main camera, 85°, f/1.7, 23mm, OIS);
- 12 MP (ultra wide angle, 120°, f/2.2, 13mm);
- 10 MP (telephoto, 36°, f/2.4, 69mm, OIS);
- 10 MP (telephoto lens, 11°, f/4.9, 230mm, OIS, 10x optical zoom, 100x space zoom)
- 12MP (front camera, f/2.2, 80°, 25mm, HDR10+)
Using 200MP camera, you can record 8K video at 30 frames per second, 4K and FHD recording, dual HDR, Smart ISO, and Super QPD autofocus. The 12MP autofocus selfie camera is also capable of recording 4K HDR videos.
