Samsung is gearing up to unveil its latest flagship foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, in the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to take place in the latter half of this year. Based on previous launches in the same series, it’s anticipated that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 will hit the market sometime in August or early September. While there are still about four months left until launch, information about the devices is already starting to surface, including a recent report that reveals the exact weight and thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
According to sources, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be impressively slim and lightweight, with a thickness of just a few millimeters and a weight that’s comparable to other high-end smartphones in its class.
Etnews has recently reported that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a weight of approximately 250g, which is 13g lighter than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which weighed in at 263g. Moreover, the thickness of the device after folding is expected to be around 13.4mm, which is a significant improvement over the previous generation’s thickness of 14.2mm, making it 0.8mm thinner.
According to recent reports, Samsung is working hard to ensure that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 meets its target weight and thickness values. The company is conducting quality tests on a regular basis to ensure that the device is lightweight and slim. The report suggests that the device has been successfully tested at a weight of 254g, but Samsung is continuing to refine its design to meet its target values.
In addition to reducing the weight and thickness of the device, Samsung has also made improvements to the hinge, which is responsible for folding the screen. The company has introduced a new water drop hinge design that allows for more accurate folding without leaving any space between the halves of the screen. This may be one of the reasons for the device’s reduced thickness.
However, it has also been reported that Samsung has decided not to include an S Pen with the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which may disappoint some users. The S Pen has been a popular accessory for Samsung’s Note series, but it seems that the company has decided not to include it with its latest foldable device.
